Classic Book Design and Layout

Using InDesign, students were tasked to redesign a book’s dust jacket and interior by selecting a book of their choice; this project had students explore the basics for book design and other long-format projects. This project explores the principles of editorial design, InDesign page set-up (facing pages, master pages, columns, margins, gutters, folios and automatic page numbering, and running heads), font pairings and sizes and leading. The assignment required students to also layout the book’s front matter.
