Senior Design Project

Senior Design Project is an advanced design course that focuses on design concept and production. Students learn the techniques, concepts, and processes essential to understanding how to create and execute a design project, from ideation to final product. Students participate in all aspects of the development and presentation of a cohesive and mature body of work. This includes concept development, research, writing, production, and presentation. Thesis exhibition work is formally presented to a faculty committee for critique of the project itself and the designer’s presentation.

Girls Gone Veiled

Girls Gone Veiled reimagines the narratives surrounding niqabi and burqa-clad women, portraying them in unexpected, dynamic scenarios that challenge stereotypes. By depicting activities like skateboarding, playing soccer, and horseback riding, it aims to break down preconceived notions and celebrate the individuality and strength of these women. Through this work, Hala hopes to spark conversations about representation and highlight the diverse experiences within modest fashion. To Hala, this project is deeply personal, inspired by a desire to redefine perspectives and honor the resilience of women in my community.

Cosmic Fortune

Born from a vision of spreading joy, Cosmic Fortune is an astrology-themed café that blends the art of coffee with the philosophy of manifestation and good energy. Cristina created twelve personalized coffee bags, each representing a zodiac sign and featuring encouraging affirmations to live by on the back. Additionally, she designed four posters showcasing ideal café drinks for each element, as well as a thoughtfully curated menu. KASA

Motivated by her passion for education and language, Asantewaa envisioned and developed "Kasa," an innovative app dedicated to teaching West African dialects. As a second-generation immigrant, her lack of proficiency in these dialects has been a persistent source of personal conflict, creating a sense of disconnection from her cultural roots. Crafting this app became Asantewaa’s means to not only grasp elements of these languages but also to delve into the rich tapestry of the associated cultures.

"Kasa" represents more than just a language-learning platform; it's a welcoming space designed to empower individuals from the West African diaspora. It serves as a bridge for self-education, fostering a sense of belonging and pride by showcasing imagery and representations that reflect the diverse faces and experiences of the community. Through this app, Asantewaa aims to cultivate a place where individuals like her can embrace their heritage, learn, and feel a renewed sense of connection to their cultural lineage.

NUVIEW CINEMA

Cinema, with its ability to evoke emotions and tell stories through the manipulation of visuals, has become a guiding force in my graphic design journey. Ultimately, NuView Cinema is an homage to the cinema experience and the films that have shaped my life. With illustrated posters, branded packaging, and prints, I drew from my own experience of what made me fall in love with the cinema, and celebrated the profound influence through the creation of NuView Cinema.

GREETINGS FROM AFGHANISTAN

Greetings from Afghanistan is a 3-part series showcasing a travel guide, poster, and postcards. Yasmine wanted to focus her theme on her home country of Afghanistan and show the true side of it to the viewers. For decades, Afghanistan has been holding the title of the most dangerous country in the world, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Sadly, the media has done an excellent job of making sure Afghanistan is feared and avoided at all costs. Afghanistan is filled with rich culture, history, achievements, and the most hospitable people you will ever meet. This project focuses on bringing attention to Afghanistan and introducing it in a better light in hopes people will one day visit and see the beauty of the country for themselves. Yasmine hope to inspire the audience through her work and change any negative viewpoints they might initially have.
